Yeah, I know, the Calm Plains is an odd choice to start off those sidequests, especially when you consider the fact that some of the monsters there are pretty tough if you haven't trained outside the main quest yet. However, there's one good reason why I think you should visit this place asap: the publicity campain and, to a lesser degree, the bridal campain
When you first land on the Calm Lands, you get a short introduction with Yuna recalling a few memories, as always. The place has changed a lot since you’ve been there last time. It hosts a handfull of mini-games now. There are 3 hovers on the plain, each hosting 2 peoples, one from the Open Air Company, the other from the Argent Company. At each hover you can talk to one of these two people who then gives you several choices:
- Play a mini-game: the SW hover hosts Lupine Dash, the N hover the Sky Slots, and finally the E hover the Reptile Run. (More details on the mini-games coming soon!). You’ll need either Open Air or Argent credits to play with one or the other company. You already get 100 credits from each company when you arrive, courtesy of Paine and Rikku
- You can buy credits at the ratio of 1/10 gils
- You can exchange credits for items (full list coming soon!)
- You can use the hover too to cross the plain without entering random battles. You'll need 10 credits to go to any of those points: Hover SW, Hover N, Hover E, Rin’s Agency, entrance of Macalania or entrance of Gagazet
- Take part to the publicity campain
In Calm Lands Central:
- 1 Ether, in the SE corner
- 2 Chocobo feather, on the western edge up N
- 1 Phoenix Down, near the nothern edge, NE
- 2x Potion, after the bridge, in the NW corner
- 1 Phoenix Down, on your right when you arrive
Note: you cannot access the cavern for now
The second task at hand is to get started in the 2 campains: the publicity campain and the bridal campain. You don’t need to go through the bridal campain to complete the scenario, but you have to take part to the publicity campain. More details about both campains soon!
When you’re done, you can leave The Calm Lands for Luca, where a secondary mission is waiting for you

2x Lunar curtain "Healing Wind" and "Thunder Spawn" grids 1x Al Behd Primer 5x Helm coins, 5xZurvan coins, 5x Coyote coins and 5x Flan coins |
Sphere Break Bridal Campain |
When you arrive at Luca, you'll automatically start with the new mission which, you're about to find out, is gonna be ridiculously simple. Your goal is to see the whole scene concerning what happened during and just after the concert from Yuna's POV. You start at the entrance: go down to the Square. A man comes and talks to you, follow him: he sits under the flag, near the shop. He'll give you ten balloons that you must deliver to ten people. All of them are in the Square area, so that's quite simple. Here they are, clockwise:
- the woman in front of the shop
- the child in front of the statue
- the old woman on the bench, left
- the two people on the bench in front of her
- the two people sitting on the floor, NW of the square
- in the building on their right, press X in front of the blind to give 2 more balloons to the guys behind
- the man in the passage on the right of the building
- There are 2 chests available during chapter 1 in Luca. When you arrive from the Celsius (or Mi'ihen), go down the first set of staires: in front of you there's a chest with 2 Lunar Curtains on a stone. You can access it by jumping. The other waits for you at Harbor no 5, the first one when you turn right from the stadium, lying behind some crates. You'll get the "Thunder Spawn" garment grid.
- Now go talk to Rin in the stadium's basement on the right: not only will you get another Al Behd Primer, but it is fundamental for another sidequest much later in the game.
- Go talk to the masked kid who will expect you from now on in the left basement under Luca's stadium. Join him, and he'll explain everything you wanna now about Sphere Break, the new mini-game if FF X-2. When you start the simulation with detailed rules, you're given 5 helm coins, 5 zurvan coins, 5 coyote coins and 5 flan coins. You can also train with him. Don't forget that there will be a tournament in chapter 3 where you can win a most interesting prize: the Lady Luck dressphere!
Kilika Island

Kilika Island is the last compulsory destination of Chapter 1. Please check"Kilika Island and Mission 5" (Chapter 1.2) for all the details of what there is to do there on top of the main mission

bridal campain |
There is no mission for now here. There is quite a lot of people to talk to in the area if you've started with the publicity and bridal campains (explanations of both campains coming soon!). Also get all the items in the chests on your way; they are located as follow:
On the South highroad (from Luca to Rin's Agency):
- 2 Phoenix Down, not far after of the save sphere, on the right
- 500 Gils in the chest among the ruins, on the left
- 1 Circlet near the end of the 1st part of the road
- 2 Antidote on the left side of the 2nd part, after the ruins
- 2 Holy Water near the woman with a machina on the left side of the 3rd part
- 2 Potions near the woman working on machinas on the right side, middle of the 3rd part
- 1 Iron Bangle, on the left side
- 2 Eye Drops near the man sitting on the left, opposite the Agency
- 2 Phoenix Down, in the curve on the left side, 2nd part
- 2 Budget Grenad, at the farest point east, near the people discussing
- 1 Mana Spring, on the right, near the end of the 1st part
- 2 Echo Screen, near the save sphere
- 2 Soft, on the right side of the narrow road leading to the dead end
Mi'ihen is a great place to start leveling up in the 1st chapter, until you get to levels 12-14. It's the level I would suggest for the Mushroom road mission. It doesn't mean that you can't take on the challenge of Mushroom Road otherwise: apart from the level, there are a few abilities from the dresspheres that can play a major role in your successes in battle; at this early stage, I would think of the songstress' Sleepy Shuffly, for instance. Since you can decide which abilities your girls are gonna learn first, don't hesitate to go in the menu and choose the ones you think will be the most helpful
If you get tired of fighting, you can always use a hover to go to either of both entrances or to Rin's Agency for 30 gils

1x Hi-Potion, 1x Turbo Ether, 1x Phoenix Down Glass Buckle, Favourite Outfit "Heart of Flame", "Restless Sleep" grids Crimson Sphere 9 1000 Gils |
As soon as you arrive (whether from Mi'ihen or from the Celsius doesn't matter), you'll spot Ormi and Logos. Follow them, and you'll be stopped by someone from the Youth League. Tell him you recognize him, accept the challenge and a new mission begins: you must reach the Youth League HQ. But before you leave this screen, speak with Clasko. From the next one, your environment will grow dark from time to time: you shouldn't move during those periods, or you'll be in for one battle after the other, as this phenomenon signals a great concentration of fiends.
Just follow the path that leads you to an elevator: press X and you'll be ported to the next part of the road. The whole thing is easy since there is only one way to go for the most part, and no treasure to pick up. However, at one point, you'll spot Logos and Ormi ahead of you: follow them down to the valley. There you'll find several items for grabs: the first on your left is an Ether Turbo, the next a little bit further ahead on your right, a Phoenix Down, and finally, on your left, just before the path starts into a curve, a Hi-Potion. All in all, they shouldn't be difficult to spot.
Just after the save sphere, enter the cave. After a short scene, you'll automatically get the Crimson Sphere 9, then, as you'll try to exit, you'll run into another former FF X character, which, of course, you've recognized, as always....Now exit the valley to go back to the road, at the end of which another elevator awaits. Up there you'll meet Elma who congratulates you, as your mission is over. You'll receive a Glass Buckle and the "Heart of Flame" grid. Don't forget to take the Favourite Outfit from the chest SW
Now you're good to go to the HQ: take the last elevator on your right and continue until you reach it. Go to the entrance and speak twice to the redhead woman guarding it. Then speak with the guy who sits on the floor on your right; like the woman before, both may be familiar.....The man will ask you if he can tell you about what he knows. Agree, and brace yourself, it is more than 5 minutes worth of history, but never ever interrupt the guy, even to tell him to continue. At the end, he'll ask to shake your hands: agree once again and now you can leave. That is, once you take the "Restless Sleep" grid on the narrow passage on your right that lies between the save sphere and the HQ. Help yourself with the map, as it is hardly visible.
Before continuing with your quest, go back to the entrance of the Mushroom road. From the save sphere you'll see Clasko on the right side: talk to him and invite him aboard the Celsius, then go past the Youth League members straight on to collect 1000 Gils. Once back on the Celsius, go to the cabin and the upstairs where Yuna rested to talk to Clasko once more

bridal campain |
There is no mission per se here, but it's an important place to visit nonetheless, as Bikanel Island becomes accessible only once you get the Letter of Introduction
After the cutscene, go talk to the guards of the temple. They'll send you queuing in front of the office on your right (former "sleep-in" and shop in FFX): that's right, the (former) summoner Yuna has to queue just like anybody else and wait till the last person before you goes in! Ok, so you don't "have to": in fact you can wait anywhere.....why not retrieve the Phoenix Down on the left in the meanwhile? Once the last person of the queue goes in, follow and answer to the man behind the counter that you want to dig. Now go to the temple as the guards will, this time, let you pass. After the scene, you receive an Al Behd Primer. Go get the Echo Screen in the local on the left of the staires, then follow the man outside. Continue till the next screen to the bridge: after another cut scene tell him that you're sure. He'll give you the Letter of Introduction: from now on, Bikanel Island will appear in the list of the Celsius' destinations. There are 2 more potions to get at the south end of the bridge, and a few people to talk to for the publicity and bridal campains

Those already familiar with Spira know that you can easily reach the Moonflow from Djose temple. Don't do that here, or you wouldn't have the introduction scene, and wouldn't get the 100% scenario at the end. This is why I put "Arrive from the Celsius" in the requirements.
Go east and talk to the little, restless character named Tobli, who gives you your next assignment, namely to escort a transportation vehicle and protect it from thieves. Follow the road south until you hear pleas for help: this is the Hypello you must escort. A few times thieves will try and steal some luggage, just intercept them by pressing X when you reach them. The battles should be a piece of cake if you've already been through the Mushroom Road.
When you finally arrive (without losing one single luggage), Tobli will give you some royal rewards: a Circlet, a "Helios Guard" grid, but most importantly, the Gun Mage dressphere! There is nothing left to do now, except for the campains if you've started them.

bridal campain |
There isn't much to do here, except to add a few more percentage to your scenario total trough a few cut scenes: the introduction scene at Guadosalam, then the one at the entrance of the Farplane (at Guadosalam, go straight on till you reach Leblanc's castle, then go left twice, then take the second on your right), and finally the one when you arrive at the Thunder Plain, where you'll find a few chests, but nothing of great importance (3x Echo Screen near the entrance, 1x Potion after the second tower on the right, and a Black Choker on the right, near the 5th tower; then by taking the left passage, 1x Phoenix Down near Rin's Agency, 2x Grenade on the right a little before the 3rd tower, and finally 1x Ether under the shelter on the left). Also, you can talk to a few people regarding the publicity campain at Guadosalam

1x Hi-Potion, 1x Turbo Ether 1x Al Behd Primer White Ring "Unerring Path" and "Ice Queen" grids Full Throttle special dressphere |
Arrive from the Celsius or the Thunder Plain. You'll automatically shortly encounter Berai near the save sphere in the southern part of Macalania. Take on the right (stop by the Guado and talk to him if you've started the publicity campain), and, two screens later, turn on your right. Go all the way until you encounter a funny, colourful character named Donga. Talk to him, then head all the way back to the save sphere. Now if you have leveled up before (i.e. if you've reached around lv 16) you should be able to cross the woods the regular way although beware, some of your enemies could wipe out 100+ HP from each girl with one attack. If you'd rather take the safe way, you can instead follow the crystal path. Taking the concrete way, just go on, grab the White Ring in the middle of the road (Center Part), and talk to the other character, Pukutak, whom you meet in the first curve of the northern part (if you do not dare to take all the way through the woods, remember to get there from the other end or come back here when your level is higher, but before going to Zanarkand). At the end of the forest way/crystal path, take the 2nd right and straight on until you see a Guado you have met in the previous episode, Tromell. Talk to him 4 times and he'll give you Paine's special dressphere, Full Throttle, as well as the "Unerring" grid.
Now back to the previous screen, take now the second on the left for Macalania Lake. After the cutscene, you're given another mission: catch O'aka. First, continue until you reach the Agency, as there's a Hi-Potion waiting outside on the right. Then go back again to the crossroad, but take the crystal path and grab the Turbo Ether (in the second screen, after you spot O'aka, there's an intersection: follow the path on your right to reach the chest). When you are at the save sphere, you see O'aka: follow him to the next screen, then turn on your left. Talk to the Guado on the right (if you've started the publicity campain), then go in the back of the area to trigger a scene: you'll receive the "Ice Queen" grid, and answer to O'aka's request positively.
Back to the Celsius, go talk to him in the Cabin. You'll learn that he has somehow accumulated debts amounting to 100'000 gils. It's gonna be up to you to buy items from him until his debt is erased. Don't worry, you don't have to reduce his debt all the way now, but you should do so before the end of chapter 2

| complete the mission "Digging in the Desert" |
1x Elixir "Still of Night" grid 1x Al Behd Primer random items during the digging available 100 Gils |
When you first arrive on Bikanel Island, follow Rikku until a cutscene brings you directly to the Al Behd's settlement (you'll be in a few random battles while running behind Rikku, but those aren't too difficult). Talk to Paine and Rikku, then to the 2 guys in front of the hover on the left, then twice to the woman standing alone further left, then again to the 2 previous Al Behd, and Nahdala should appear. It happened to me once that she didn't. Just continue talking around and back to the 2 guys and it should do the trick.
Once you've showed to her the Letter of Introduction, a new mission starts. Go talk to the pilot on your left and he'll take you out in the desert.
What you must do there is quite simple: you have minute to dig and find a machina part, then bring it back to the hover. When the minute starts, four white crosses and one yellow appear on the map. The white crosses are for random items (one of the four actually is a trap, you'll be forced into a random battle if you try to dig there), and the yellow one indicate the part you're looking for. Sometimes the yellow cross won't appear: that means it's out of the field the map covers at the start. Just move around and away from the hover, and you'll find it. Go stand where the cross is, and you'll automatically start digging. Now to complete the mission you must get the part and come back to the hover within the minute. But if you want, you can also dig to get the items under the white crosses: those you can keep for yourself (for a list of what's available: coming soon!). As in most places, random battles occur, but the timer stops during those.
When you're back to the hover, the timer stops and you're taken back to the settlement. You'll receive 100 gils, 1x Elixir and the "Still of Night" grid from Nahdala. From now on you can dig whenever you want but it is strongly recommended that you don't until late in the Chapter 5, or else dig to get the randoms items under the white crosses, but don't bring back the machina parts under the yellow ones: each time you do, one of the bosses of Chapter 5 grows stronger, and beating him, which you must do to reach 100% scenario, will become increasingly difficult

There isn't much to do, except for an increase in your scenario percentage and a tiara to receive. Go straight on until you arrive at the 3rd screen. In front of the doors, a scene will start automatically. When you control Yuna again, follow the character you've just been speaking to inside, jump on the elevator ahead of you and talk to the guy one more time. He'll give you a tiara. Since there's nothing left for you to do here at the moment, go back to the save sphere you arrived from
Mt Gagazet

Again, there's nothing to gain here right now, but there's something important to do that will have a great influence on some later events. After the introduction, you'll meet with your old friend Kimahri, and with other Ronsos. At one point, you'll be asked to choose between three answers. Your choice can alter the events later, as for each answer, you receive either -1, 0 or one point. There's a total of 7 Ronsos you must go talk to and choose how to answer to, both in chapters 1 and 2. The total of points will alter an event in chapter 3 and another in chapter 5, and on your answer to Kimahri depends the possibility to get the trainer dressphere in chapter 3 already.
Here are the recommanded answers:
- Garik (automatic): "We'll take care of Lian and Ayde"
- Woman standing by Kimahri: "Leave it to the Gullwings"
- Woman on the right: "You might be right"
- Man on the right, coming and going: "I'll never forget their sacrifice"
- Man coming and going between both sides: "I can imagine how you must feel"
- Man in red armor on the left: "I couldn't forgive them either"
- Man it the cave (you can either go all the way there on foot from the entrance - you just have to follow the path - but be aware, if you haven't played FFX, that this is quite a long way until you can get to another save sphere; or you can use the teleporter to go to the second destination. The Ronso will be on your left.): "Changes for the better, I hope"
- Kimahri: "You have to learn to deal with these things"
