(7) Encountering Wakka

Of the two compulsory missions at this point, you could choose to go to either Besaid or Zanarkand, but Besaid is easier, and you get the White Mage dressphere once you've completed the mission - in my opinion, one of the most useful jobs. Getting it right away gives you more chances to learn new abilities before Kilika....

When you choose Besaid Island from the Celsius, you arrive near the save sphere that lies a little bit above the village. Just follow the way downhill to get there. After the cutscene during which you encounter Wakka (7), you can walk around to countinue the campains or do a little shopping, in the first house on the left. Interestingly enough, beside the usual list, you can ask for some rare items. The one that the shopkeeper will then propose is the Besaid Key....for 900,000 Gils! Either you are not into your first game, and you have all those gils left from the previous time so you can buy it, or you're not so lucky and you'll have to pass the offer. Don't worry, you can acquire the key for free in chapter 3. Believe me, the prize behind this is great, but not worth all those Gils....

When you're done, go inside the 2nd house on the right to speak to Lulu. After another cutscene, back into the house, agree on sleeping there. The day after, join her outside, and agree on searching for Wakka.

If you speak to the people around, you'll soon understand that you're looking for codes on different ruins around the island, and that the codes allow you to enter a mysterious cave.

They are quite easy to find: on top of the hints given during your converations, their location is marked in red on the maps. All are located outside the village. Take the slope to leave the village; in the next screen, you'll be at the promontory. Examinate the ruin there by pressing X to get a first digit; you do not need to remember them, as all the digits you'll find will appear again once you'll have to tape them to enter the cave.

If you continue north, climb the first pillar on the right in the next screen and examine it to get the second digit. There is no new code in the area after, but you can get 2x Chocobo Wings if you jump down on the left of the road when you arrive at the waterfall (beware, the way is well hidden). When you arrive next at the crossroad, go straight on to get to the beach. First go all the way to the harbor, then further ahead: you'll have to climb all the way to the top to read the next digit. Finally, go back to the path that leads to the previous screen: just before you actually leave, you'll see two children play on the left side. Climb where they are, then all the way until you stand on the ruins to read your last clue, but instead of jumping down, continue ahead until you reach 2 chests with a Hi-Potion and 1000 Gils.

Now you can go back to the crossroad. On the left, there is a door: if you examine it, there will be a space with the code you must enter, and below, the digits you found. Match the ones on top and the door opens.

Inside you'll talk to Wakka. Then proceed west at both crossroads to reach a chest with 2x Potion, go back till you can go north. After a few jumping, you'll reach a save sphere. Use it since you're about to enter a battle again a boss. Do not go ahead if you're not level 8 or above (if you've been in a few battles between Mt Gagazet's Ruins and now, you should be well above) , or you'd certainly lose....Continue and examine the sphere: the boss appears right behind you

Boss strategy

Flame Dragon: HP 980 MP 84
Weak against Ice Resistant against Fire Immune against Gravity

Ok, this one can be real easy if you've taken part to the sidequests in this chapter, especially if you've won the Heart of Flame garment grid (from the Chapter 1, sidequests, Mushroom mission) and have learned ice-elemental attacks, both magical (Blizzard or Blizzara) or physical (the Warrior's "Ice Brand"). Also, your character with the most HP should be a warrior who masters the Sentinel ability. With that setup, there's no reason at all you should worry in the least against this boss. If you don't have the Heart of Flame, you can always equip Red Rings. Here's why.

The Flame Dragon begins with "Flame Breath", which is basically a fire elemental attack that hits all girls for about 200 HP each. If you've equiped the Heart of Flame grid, you will absorb the attack; the Red Rings will reduce the damages by half. After that, it uses its Swip to deal physical damages on the girl with the most HP. If that girl is a Warrior using Sentinel, the damages will be limited to 1 HP, and the other two can concentrate on using warrior abilities like Power or Magic break, as well as "Ice Sword", or use Ice spells thanks to the Black Mage or the White Ring. Beware when the boss' HP are below 99, it will once again cast Flame Breath: be careful then if your girls are low on HP and aren't equiped with Heart of Flame or even Red Rings. That being said, with the right equipment, this battle should be pretty easy

When it is over, you'll receive the very useful "White Mage" dressphere. Go back at the entrance of the cave to speak to Wakka, and you'll get also the Besaid Sphere and the "Protection Halo" garment grid. You'll be taken back to the Celsius automatically. From there, you can head for Zanarkand Ruins or continue with the sidequests if you haven't completed them all yet

When you beam down from the Celsius, the mission starts automatically. Climb the hill and go talk to the character that has his back turned to you. Of course, you say you remember him, even if you haven't played FF X.... He leaves you after your conversation: follow him down, then head NW until you reach the dome. You'll see a first cutscene with children. Follow them inside until you catch up with them. At the end of your conversation, answer "Sure I do" and proceed until you run into goons that are easily defeated. At the crossroad, take the time to choose first the second on the right to get 1x Megaphoenix. Go back and head now all the way N: before you can reach the corridor, you'll run into 2 other groups of goons and one chest with 1x Phoenix Down

Once in the corridor, you'll see many chests, all empty. There isn't anything for you there, so don't lose time and proceed until you reach the 2nd cloister of trial. There, in the middle of the room, go on the platform to activate the elevator. From there, go into the Chamber and talk to Cid. Complain to him about the whole Zanarkand tourist attraction thing, talk to the other guy in the room, and leave for the hall. Retrieve there all the items in the 6 chests and continues straight on until you end up in "The Beyond"

At the end of a surrealistic conversation, answer "Is that you,...." and you'll receive the "Heart Reborn" grid

If you still have some sidequests to attend, now is the last time before chapter 2!

Take the staires down ahead of you to enter the treasure chamber. Just follow the hall: you'll reach a save sphere. Better use it now since the next boss is in the square room just ahead! Go in direction of the sphere and you'll be once again facing a boss, this time quite a well-known one for those who have been in Zanarkand in FFX

Boss strategy

Guardian Beast: HP 2886 MP 1000
Weak against Fire, Ice, Thunder, Water and Holy Immune against Gravity

Although it's way more impressive than the Flame Dragon, it is not really dangerous if you've been levelling up enough (lv 18-20). It uses three different kinds of attack in a given pattern. Until he loses 2/3 of his HP, he uses a physical attack (one girl loses about 100HP) 3 times, then Curse, but you don't need to worry about that - just cure the girl who's been targeted by Curse, or you're gonna deal her more damages everytime you heal your team. Once he's below 1000 HP, he'll use Damocles Photon, his unfamous attack. Now that you wanna watch for: all girls lose half of their maximum HP! Your best chance in that case is to deal enough damages in one turn to end the battle before it casts Damocles Photon: if you have elemental intermediate magic spells, now is time to use them: they should deal between 700 and 900 HP damages; have the other two hit it with all their might, and you may just avoid Damocles Photon altogether

There's another possiblity if you already have the Soul Swipe through the Thief, you can cast beserk on this boss to avoide both Curse and Damocles Photon. Its physical attack will be stronger, but you can cast Protect (or pass through the red orb on the "Protection Halo" grid). If you don't have Soul Swipe, cast shell before it starts using Damocles Photon

Your only reward is a sphere fragment, totally useless for the time being....you are now taken back to the Celsius, before automatically heading for Kilika

Kilika
(9) Kilika - two years later
Credits: ffx2.net
It is possible you've already visited Kilika before since it was a possible destination of the Celsius throughout Chapter 1. If, however, this is your first visit, I strongly suggest you take your time before starting the mission. There's quite a lot of people to talk to for both campains, a lot of items to take and some talking to do to get 100% scenario and some extra items in the following chapters

From where you stand when you arrive, look around you: you can get 1x Ether and 1x Mana Tablet by jumping on the boats around. Now if you follow the path before you, after the corner, take the stairs and follow the way until you cross the water (get 2x Antidote while you're at it, just before crossing), then continue all the way, grab the 2x Eye Drops and walk the stairs down at the far SE corner. There you can grab 1x Phoenix Down

Go all the way back to the left side, ground level, and continue straight on until next screen, Kilika Village. Take the 1st set of stairs and turn on your left: a scene will start with Barthello and Dona. Enter the house to talk to her. After that, take the stairs on your left to pick up 1500 Gils on Dona's roof. Get out and continue on the first floor to get to the Light Curtain. Now cross the bridge to catch 2x Holly Water, a Star Curtain and a Lunar Curtain. Talk to the woman with the monkey. She'll ask if you could find other monkeys in Kilika Forest; of course agree. You don't need it to get 100% scenario, but you can get a pretty cool reward in chapter 3. The same applies for another task in this part of the village: a little bit further south, you'll see this guy with a camera: talk to him and look through the camera: this will open an area for you in chapter 5 where you'll find some useful items. When you're done with all this, you can head for the gate, north of the village. It will trigger an important scene and your next mission (and last in this chapter) will start automatically

Nooj's speech before Kilika forest

Enter the forest. Your goal is to get through it and arrive in the temple area. They are several ways, but some of them are blocked by soldiers. Most enemies you'll encounter are pretty easy to defeat in random battles, except for the Protector: you may want to run from that one, or use Paine's Special Dressphere

While you're there, why not capture all monkeys for the woman back in Kilika's village(this is your only opportunity for a loooooong while)? They hide near the trees bording the path. When you come close to them, you'll hear noise: press X to capture one. They are found in the following locations, starting from the entrance of the forest:

You can't go any further as soldiers block the way. Instead go back and take the way on your left (it leads you N)

Continue again following the curve to the right

then you come to yet another crossroad. Take the first on your left

now go back to the crossroad, turn right (that is, go E)

From where you stand, turn left to access the temple. But before that, turn right to catch the last monkey

In that curve, jump on the 2nd tree bending over the water and get a Megalixir. You can now turn back and follow the way along the water to end up....facing soldiers. They'll ask you for the password, and so will their piers above. In total, they'll ask for it 5 times; answer in the following order: "Craven Monkey", "Carved Monkey", "Craven Monkey", "Carved Monkey" and "Carved Monkey" to receive 1x Hi-Potion, 1x Ether, 1x Turbo Ether and the "Menace of the Deep" grid. Now the only thing that stand between you and the last battle of this chapter is a cutscene

Boss strategy

YSLS-Zero: HP 1935 MP 0
Immune against Gravity

Ok, the main thing you have to take care for is to stay healed throughout the whole thing, as your enemy uses Blast Punch, meaning one of your girl is going to lose half of her maximum HP, and casting protect won't help any this time; you can use it though to protect yourself from the other physical attacks it uses. Otherwise, cast Cure/Cura on all girls each turn

In terms of attacks, use the power break ability asap. If you have this one and use it to create combos, and if you keep your health up all the time, it shouldn't be too difficult

After the battle, you're rewarded with the Awesome Sphere

This concludes Chapter 1: proceed to Chapter 2
