Updates

·        01/15/05: part V of the Former Han Dynasty has been updated. This is the last part of Former Han's chronological history. The next (and much shorter -1 page!)chapter will be on Wang Mang until the restoration of the Han Dynasty. Look for updates soon!

·        12/07/04: part IV of the Former Han Dynasty has been updated. I think I've come to a satisfying plan for the time when I'll start adding themes to this part. You'll see soon what this is gonna be. Anyway, I'm gonna start a system of page updates notices when I add new content to one or the other page as I continue my studies.

·        11/18/04: part II of the Former Han Dynasty has been updated

·        11/15/04: The first chapter has been completed; I've also put up the first part on the Han Dynasty here!

·        08/05/04: Ok, part I & II of the 1st chapter are up, part III should follow quickly

·        08/02/04: I’m starting to put this section online again. The first chapter should be up some time this week

Introduction

This part is the core of the asian-center. For some knowledge of one country's history is needed to understand it as it stands today!

It is divided in 3 parts:

  • summaries of existing works
  • essais on one period or aspect of China history
  • links and bibliografic resources

About Summaries: Throughout my studies, or because of personal interests, I've come to read books that may not be accessible to many people, because they don't live near a university library, or they can't afford them if they are still sold (every single book of “The Cambridge History of China” for instance, is $100 or more....), or because they are interested but can't go through 1000s of pages for various reasons. Since I am writing summaries for myself, I thought that maybe they could come in handy for some people.

They are of course also designed to help students who need clues about some points of China's history, or for those who are studying Chinese history itself and who need summaries to prepare their exams.

However, for the latter: SUMMARIES ARE NOT ENOUGH!

Believe me, I've been there before, and tried to prepare some exams for which reading of some books was required, with summaries of those books only, it just doesn't work, no matter how good the summaries are....

Disclaimer:

About the Sources: The summaries are in no way reproduction of part or all of an already existing work. They are the summing-up of the main points raised by an author, put in the author of the summary's own words and order. Work on which the summaries are based is always mentioned at the beginning of each page. If for some reason, quotations are made of an already existing work in the summaries, they would be put into brackets and referred to as such. No copyright law infringement intended.
