About

Hi! I'm Aria, your webmistress. I've been interested in history since....well, forever, really. Even elected to drop out of English for my maturity exams (at the end of college - understand high school) to have history as tested subject instead. As for Asia, it came much later, thanks to my Contemporary History teacher at university as I was completing a degree in International Relations at the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute of International Studies; I've graduated in 2002

Since then, I've been through several jobs as a young graduate and am currently working in a law firm. I'm however pursuing my studies in my favorite academic fields on the side. I'm currently preparing for the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficency Test) level 4 (the easiest one) as well as making my way through several books on history at the moment. I've also had the chance to attend several lectures over the last year pertaining to Asia, from politics to arts. I'm currently a member of the Geneva - Asia Society, the Society for the Study of Early China and a Friend of the Baur Collections, dedicated to Asian arts

I have the chance to live near an important university center, therefore giving me access to many books and various resources. I also currently am lucky enough to make a good enough living to be able to afford to buy the material I really want the most. But I know it's not the case for everyone, far from it, either for geographical or for material reasons, or both. The great thing about the internet though is that, as long as you can connect yourself, all those difficulties don't interfere anymore. It's also the best medium to pool resources and share them with everyone. That's where Asian-center, and its academical sections in particular, fits. I'm hoping to share whatever information on various fields - here Asian History - I can come across, especially when it may be difficult for a majority to access. Summaries will be available along with the integrated results of my researches. What that means is that you'll have on one hand unmitigated summaries of the main points presented by a given book I've read or by a lecture I've attended (or tv documentaries I may watch, etc), which purpose is to serve as resources for further research; on the other hand, I'll write a history of several asian countries based on what I am learning, which is a completely personal take on the subject. I will also add thematical stand-alone articles, as well as, I hope, a gallery of photographies and other illustrations either released in the public domain or falling in a Creative Commons category, therefore allowing people to use them for free for academical purposes (under certain conditions when it comes to the Creative Commons)

I hope you'll enjoy the place. Don't hesitate to contact me to send me your feedbacks and suggestions
